As a DA, you will:

• Complete two focused 6-month placements with two Product Designers over the course of 12 months. Each senior designer is there to guide your growth.

• Get the opportunity to learn from the best leaders in the design craft and solve merchant problems through impactful design

• Be a part of a strong community of peers to learn from and grow alongside

• Have the opportunity to join regular Design Apprentice Program events to learn from senior design leaders at Shopify

• Build expertise with AI-powered design tools and modern design methodologies

Design Apprentices will work with a variety of multidisciplinary product teams designing experiences for merchants around the world. You'll be paired with senior designers who will mentor you through meaningful projects that directly impact millions of entrepreneurs.

• The Design Apprentice Program is open to candidates eligible to work in the US and Canada who will be located in North America for the duration of the program

• We are looking for candidates who are early in their design careers and are aspiring Product Designers. This includes new graduates, early career professionals (1-2 years experience), and career switchers

• We welcome educational backgrounds in Industrial Design, Graphic Design, Visual Design, Human Computer Interaction, Product Design, UX/UI Design, or related design fields

• Career switchers from engineering, research, or other design disciplines are encouraged to apply

• We're looking for candidates eager to embrace AI tools and cutting-edge design technologies

• There are no strict academic requirements for this program. Whatever your background, if designing the future of commerce sounds exciting, we encourage you to apply

Successful candidates will be contacted by our recruitment team with interview details. The process includes a "Life Story" interview and a Portfolio Review where we'll explore how you embrace AI tools and approach systems thinking. You can find details on how we hire at Shopify here.

On program completion, you have the portfolio, skills, and network you need to launch your design career.

Shipped work: A portfolio of features you designed, systems you contributed to, and research with real outcomes

Growth: Reviews mapped to our design skills framework showing exactly how you leveled up

Your story: A case study or demo video you can share with future employers (with sensitive details removed)

Note: This program doesn't guarantee a full-time role at Shopify. If roles open later, Design Apprentice Program alumni are welcome to apply through our standard process.

No, Shopify will not provide sponsorship or Visa support. You will need a valid work permit to be hired, and be available to work full-time in North America for the duration of the program.

In order to be eligible for the Design Apprentice Program you must be available for 12 months of full time work.
