Becoming a design apprentice at Shopify means spending a year imbedded in two different teams, honing your craft while working on meaningful projects.

If you're a new grad or early in your career in design, this program will fast-track your growth. You'll master the latest AI-powered design tools, learn to think in systems, and discover what it takes to design experiences that truly matter.

Two team rotations

You'll spend 6 months each on two different product design teams, contributing to projects that reach millions of users while learning from senior product designers who'll mentor and guide you.

Learn by doing (and shipping)

Master product design through hands-on work, not just theory. You'll get up to speed with AI-powered design tools, modern methodologies, and the systems thinking that separates good designers from great ones.

Small cohort, big impact

About you

Taking the next step in your design career

  • New graduate, have 1-2 years of experience, or are switching into product design from a related discipline
  • Are eligible to work full-time in the US or Canada for 12 months

Deeply passionate about design

  • You have a command of design fundamentals (typography, hierarchy, composition, etc.)
  • Constantly in search of new inspiration for what makes great product design
  • Think in systems and love solving complex problems. You're someone who always wonders how products can be improved.

Deeply excited about the future of design

  • Excited about AI tools and how they can shape the design process
